Sun Microsystems 4, 2006 – 11,2008 Engineering Director, Site Lead Beijing, China
Responsible for all aspects of device driver development for Solaris on X86 platforms. The team consisted of over eighty developers and was located in Beijing, China. The team determined Solaris driver needs on X86 platforms, including top Sun’s OEM partners (Intel, IBM and Dell), then devised plans and schedules. Under my leadership, the team has successfully completed the full transition into a high performance software development team, including process following, quality awareness, IP protection, customer needs analysis and integration into the Solaris operating system. During my tenure in Sun China, the team delivered dozens of Solaris drivers in networking (wireless and wired), storage, audio, video and USB. In addition to the engineering responsibilities, I also served as Host Director for the Solaris Business Unit in Beijing (roughly 150 engineers), and Deputy General Manager for Sun China. As the most senior executive in Sun China, I had also represented Sun Microsystems in numerous conferences, conventions and customer pre-sales and post-sales meetings. During the last few months in Beijing, I have served as site lead as well.

The team under my leadership successfully delivered technically complex, mission critical, real time solutions for IBM customers in the area of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. The solutions were deployed for IBM’s enterprise customers. The team also delivered systems management solutions and RAS (Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) for IBM’s small and medium businesses in the storage area.
The Storage Systems Development Department at IBM Haifa Research Labs was responsible for the development of all
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solutions. As Lab Director I also took part in business development, pre-sales support, customer escalation and customer support, long term planning, full development cycle, HR issues, and quality.
1, 2003 – 12, 2004 Senior Development Manager
Successfully delivered numerous replication applications (Point in Time and Real Time replications) for IBM’s high end and midrange storage controllers and a robust management system for IBM’s midrange controller. My responsibilities included requirement definition, high level and detailed design, implementation, testing and supporting. In addition I was also responsible for hiring, career development, customer relations, and integration. My team included sixty staff and dozens of contractors.
5, 2001 – 1, 2003 Development Manager
Successfully delivered Business Continuity solutions for IBM’s enterprise customers. The team was responsible for the complete development cycle – from inception to sustaining of Point in Time Data Copy applications. As manager, I was responsible for planning and execution. As an expert in the subject matter, I was often invited to speak to customers as well as academia, on the subject of Disaster Recovery. Won an IBM Award for Management Excellence.
9, 2000 – 5, 2001 Researcher / Developer
Designed and implemented a scalability model as well as a fault tolerance model for a large, distributed server application. Took part in modelling Telephony switches in order to develop a feature development platform offering for Telco systems.
5, 1997 – 9, 2000 Researcher / Developer
Designed and implemented Concurrent Copy – a Point In Time copy function for IBM’s flagship Enterprise Storage Servers. Concurrent Copy was the only copy function rolled out in the product’s first release in 1999. I took part in the design and implementation of IBM’s long distance and asynchronous Disaster Recovery solution for S/390. The Extended Remote Copy (XRC) is successfully deployed around the globe, helping enterprises to ensure their business continuity. From October of 1998 to October 1999, I was stationed in Tucson Arizona, to be the liaison between the Haifa based team and the Tucson based project headquarters.

Involved in pilot programs with the Forte Client Server Application Development platform (an early Java-like development platform). The real success was in training of dozens of developers (internal and external) in Object Oriented Analysis and Design methods.
HBO Time Warner 12, 1991 – 6, 1996 Engineering Manager New York, NY
Lead the effort for redesigning HBO’s billing systems, moving it away from a COBOL based mainframe application, and deploying it on a client-server platform, with an easily understood and user friendly Graphical User Interface. Leader in assimilating the Object Oriented Paradigm and the C++ programming language within the group and within HBO. Successfully developed and deployed a variety of user applications in the area of airing rights, royalties, billing, programming and scheduling.
