Tibet – Don’t Jump to Conclusions

It’s easy to dismiss the rising voices in China to boycott the West over the Tibet issue as a “party initiated unrest”. Don’t do it. Like many other concepts, Western hypocrisy is foreign here. Many really don’t understand why the Tibetan unrest is considered genuine and theirs is considered staged. It as plausible that the Tibetan unrest is staged for the Olympics, and the Chinese discomfort is real.

See International Herald Tribune Article

Twenty years ago, China certainly had the lower hand when it cam to power play with the West. I’m not convinced that this is a good time to play this game now, when the US is involved with two indefinitely going wars away from home, and one as significant at home.  Lack of exit strategy in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the economy going south, the unbelievable wealth lost in overpriced housing and bad loans, should convince policy makers in the West to avoid this play right now.

Let the Games begin.
